eBay Country Manager at Thailand Mobile Summit 2016
eBay was found in 1995 in San Jose, California and is one of the world’s largest and most vibrant marketplaces for discovering great value and unique selection.
eBay and Thailand
It has been over a decade now since eBay stepped foot into Thailand with the pioneer seller Thaigem.com selling gems from Chantaburi. Along with educating the people through courses on how to trade and become rich on eBay, the company rapidly gained popularity and became a household name.
With the business growing exponentially, the company saw the potential rise in global demand picking up for Thai merchandise and they decided to set up their first office in Thailand in 2009. The focus was to support Thai people to sell cross-border, from Thailand to the World, on various eBay sites and this has been the strategy they have been carrying on for several years.
Today, Thai people have welcomed eBay and is perceived as a global commerce leader among Marketplace, StubHub and Classifieds platforms. Such was the growth globally that eBay is now considered to be everywhere – ‘a borderless marketplace’ connecting 164 million buyers and sellers in 190 countries around the world, empowering people and creating opportunity through Connected Commerce.
Thailand is ranked no.1 among other SEA countries in terms of annual export volume in the last 5 years. Thailand is one of the key markets for cross-border online retail. eBay has seen significant growth among Thailand’s retail exporters compared to other countries in this region. The top three categories for Thai retail exporters on eBay are namely jewellery and gemstones, auto parts and accessories, and health & beauty products. Promising product categories that have potential to grow also include food, home & garden and furniture.
